In this module, students use barcode scanners to explore the meaning behind the ‘zebra crossing’ found on everyday products. They learn how to decode the codes and how much barcodes have to do with computer science (and mathematics), e.g. operating principle of cash register systems with databases, necessity of encoding, error detecting codes, check digits, compatibility with American system). Based on this knowledge, the students go on to get to know QR Codes.
